Google recently updated their Google Maps Android app to introduce a cool new feature that allows offline map data access. This Google labs feature lets you access Maps data without internet connection on the go. But for that you will have to download maps data before leaving workplace or home where internet connection is required to locally cache data on to your phone memory.
Google labs feature dubbed as ‘Download Map Area’ has been added to Google Maps Android app which when enabled stores maps data. Note that the data downloaded to your phone will be live only for 30 days. The data if necessary can be manually removed using Cache settings.
Steps to enable and download Google Maps data for offline access:
1. To enable ‘Download Map Area’ labs feature head over to Menu key, then More, then Labs.
2. Now select ‘Download map area’ to enable it.
3. Now choose the map area you want to download and then select Download map area. The data will now be downloaded to phone memory for offline access.
